Bauchi furniture firm workers protest

Bauchi—Workers of Bauchi State Furniture Company Ltd, yesterday, staged a protest to press home their demand for better pay, improved working conditions and casualization. The workers are believed to be casual workers of the company, which is handling several furniture contracts in Bauchi and other parts of the country. The protesters demanded an upward review of their salarie, integration into the mainstream state civil service and yearly working bonus, among others. Reacting to the development, the Managing Director of the company, Bako Dijabira, said it was not possible to meet the demands of the workers because the company was a limited liability entity not structured for that. He said: “Though the company was established by the state government, there are no provisions to meet their demands.”
